This homemade hummus is smooth and creamy, with fresh garlic, lemon and tahini. All you need is one can of chickpeas, a food processor and about 10 minutes! It's honestly so good that I'm having a really hard time going back to store-bought hummus now. 😂
It's also one of my regular homemade snacks, along with this classic guacamole and fresh salsa. And it's SO delicious spread on a sandwich or tucked into a veggie wrap.

🌿 Ingredients

This recipe uses canned chickpeas to keep things quick, along with tahini, fresh lemon, garlic, olive oil, cumin & salt, and a little water (not shown).
Chickpeas: You'll need one 15-ounce can, drained and rinsed. Chickpeas and garbanzo beans are the same thing, so either label works! You can also use 1 ½ cups of cooked chickpeas; just make sure they're very tender.
Tahini: This sesame seed paste adds richness and that familiar hummus flavor. Stir the jar thoroughly before measuring so you get an even mixture of the sesame paste and oil.
Lemon and garlic: Freshly lemon and garlic clove are best for homemade hummus; they really give it its bright, zesty flavor.

📝 Instructions

✔️ Tips for success
Clean up the chickpeas: Peel off any of the loose skins as you rinse your chickpeas; that'll make your hummus even smoother and creamier in the end.
Gradually add water: Don't add too much water at first; add just a little and process it before adding more until it reaches your perfect desired consistency. If your hummus still looks slightly coarse, scrape down the sides and process a little longer before adding more water. Give the food processor a chance to smooth everything out. 🙂
🥧 Serving suggestions
There are plenty of ways to enjoy a batch beyond dipping carrots into it...although that's always a good place to start.
Make a veggie wrap: Spread some into a gluten-free tortilla, then add greens and crunchy vegetables. My hummus and veggie wrap walks you through the assembly.
Add it to a grain bowl: A spoonful makes a delicious addition to this Mediterranean bowl for one, with rice, vegetables, olives and feta.
Put together a snack plate: Spoon the hummus into a bowl, drizzle it with a little olive oil, and finish with a dash of paprika if you'd like. Serve with pita, cucumber slices, carrot sticks or bell pepper strips.
Spread it on a sandwich: Use it with sliced vegetables, chicken or turkey for an easy lunch.
