Avocado toast doesn't get easier (or tastier!) than this. Just five minutes, one ripe avocado, and endless topping possibilities. It's the kind of breakfast that honestly never gets old.

🌿 Ingredients

The only ingredients you'll absolutely need to make avo toast are: an avocado, bread and a little sea salt. Of course, you're welcome to add any of the suggested toppings below as well. I love using multi-grain bread or sourdough, but any hearty bread will work.
Pro tip: Don't use avocados that aren't ripe enough! If you buy an avocado that's very firm, it'll likely take at least a day or two to ripen on the countertop (no need to refrigerate while it's ripening.) You'll know when it's ripe if the flesh can be easily indented with a little push into the skin.
🥑 Toppings
What to put on avocado toast you might ask? Here are a few ideas for toppings and seasonings to get you started.
- everything bagel seasoning (affiliate link)
- a squeeze of fresh lime juice or lemon juice
- a bit of extra-virgin olive oil
- a pinch of garlic powder, onion powder or ground cumin
- freshly chopped cilantro or dill
- thinly sliced tomato, red onion or radishes
- microgreens like broccoli sprouts (one of my other all time favorite toppings!)
- some smoked salmon
- feta, mozzarella or burrata cheese
- a little kimchi
- some fresh salsa
- a poached or fried egg (try this avocado toast with egg recipe)
📝 Instructions

Step 1: Slice the avocado lengthwise and scoop out the flesh into a bowl.
Pro tip: To remove an avocado pit, place the half with the pit in it on a hard surface and give the pit a fairly strong but controlled whack with a chef's knife to lodge the blade partway into the pit. Then, hold the avocado in one hand as you turn the knife with the other to loosen and remove the pit.

Step 2: Wash and prep any optional toppings you'd like to use.

Step 3: Use the back of a fork to mash the avocado until it's smooth and spreadable. Add salt and/or other desired seasonings and mix once more to incorporate.

Step 4: Toast the bread until crispy and golden.

Step 5: Using a spoon, spread the avocado on the toast using the back of the spoon to distribute it evenly.

Step 6: Add any toppings you'd like, and enjoy!

Avocado toast is best when consumed immediately, but it can be saved in the fridge for up to 24 hours. For easy meal prep, you could mash the avocado the night before, store it in the fridge, and then spread it onto freshly toasted bread in the morning.
