📝 Instructions
Ready to learn how to make a smoothie? Let's do this.
First, place all of the ingredients in the blender milk and banana first, and cover. Then, slowly increase the speed to high and blend for 30 seconds to 1 minute. And that's it! Pour into a couple tall glasses and enjoy your smoothie. Oh, and you can garnish with some fresh mint leaves if you'd like to make them really pretty. 🙂
Pro tip: Use a professional-grade blender (if you have one) for an extra smooth texture, but a standard blender will work just fine too.
📋 Substitutions
This smoothie recipe is vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free as written. Feel free to make any of the following substitutions:
- Soy free - use almond milk, rice milk, oat milk, or dairy milk (any kind)
- Vegan - use agave syrup or coconut sugar instead of honey to make a vegan berry smoothie
📖 Variations
Here are a few delicious smoothie variations you can try:
- Berry banana smoothie - add an extra banana and use half the amount of berries
- Chia berry smoothie - add a tablespoon of chia seeds
- Spinach berry smoothie - add a handful or more of baby spinach or kale leaves
- Mango berry smoothie - add a cup of mango instead of or in addition to the banana
- Berry smoothie with yogurt - use your favorite plain or vanilla yogurt instead of milk; for a Greek yogurt berry smoothie, use half Greek yogurt and half water instead of milk
- Berry protein smoothie - add 1-2 scoops of plain or vanilla protein powder
🔪 Equipment
Here is the equipment you'll need to make this smoothie recipe:
- professional-grade blender or standard blender
A professional-grade blender (if you have one) will create an extra smooth texture, but a standard blender will work just fine too.
🍱 Storage
Berry smoothies will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 24 hours but are best when consumed immediately. They don't stand up well to freezing.
🎉 Top tip
If you like your smoothies extra icy, you can freeze the banana ahead of time (for at least a couple hours, or overnight.) Or, just add several ice cubes before you blend to achieve the same effect.
Enjoy!
💭 FAQ
Berry smoothies typically contain some kind of milk or yogurt as the base, as well as frozen mixed berries, a banana, and honey or sugar to sweeten.
A professional-grade blender will ensure that your smoothie has extra smooth texture, but a standard blender will work fine as well but may not be quite as smooth.
Yes, you can use fresh fruit for smoothies and add some ice to achieve the icy cold quality of a good smoothie. The advantage of using frozen fruit, however, is that makes the smoothie thicker since you aren't diluting it with ice.
Yes. Instead of a berry banana smoothie, you can substitute an orange, mango or some pineapple chunks for the banana (or both) to make up for the sweetness.
