📝 Instructions
Ready to do this? It couldn't be easier! Simply place all of the ingredients into a blender and increase the blender speed to high gradually as you blend for 30 seconds to a minute.
Pro tip: Make sure to add the ingredients into the blender in the order listed in the recipe card below; that'll make it easier for your blender to mix everything smoothly without getting jammed from too much frozen fruit or ice on the bottom.
📋 Substitutions
This smoothie recipe is SO versatile. If you don't have everything listed on hand, feel free to make the following substitutions, or try your own!
- Milk - use any kind of dairy or plant based milk such as almond milk; or, substitute half yogurt or Greek yogurt and half water (if you don't have milk or yogurt on hand, you can just use all water)
- Orange - use orange juice, apple juice or pineapple juice instead of an orange
- Strawberries - blueberries or any kind of frozen berry mix works great
- Protein powder - use whey powder instead, or leave out if you'd like (make sure to watch out for added sugars or other unwanted ingredients)
- Honey - use agave syrup for a vegan sweetener
📖 Variations
The possibilities are truly endless for this homemade strawberry banana smoothie. Here are a few of my faves!
- Strawberry peach smoothie - keep the banana and strawberries, and replace the orange with a cup of frozen peaches (one of my all-time favorites!)
- Strawberry banana spinach smoothie - add up to a cup of baby spinach leaves to the blender (amazingly, the taste is so mild that kids may not even notice their presence!); kale is also a great add on instead of spinach
- Strawberry banana pineapple smoothie - add a few chunks of frozen pineapple to your smoothie, or try kiwi, mango, or peaches
- Strawberry banana chocolate smoothie - blend in up a tablespoon or two of chocolate chips on days that require a little chocolate
🔪 Equipment
A blender is the only requirement to make these smoothies. A professional blender such as a Vitamix works best for a silky-smooth texture, but any standard modern blender will also work just fine.
- Professional-grade blender or standard blender
🍱 Storage
Strawberry banana smoothies will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 24 hours but are best when consumed immediately. They do not stand up well to freezing.
🎉 Top tip
Feel free to experiment with some of the substitutions listed above until you create your perfect smoothie! You'll know it when you do. 😉
Enjoy!
