This acai berry smoothie is creamy, refreshing, and made with just a handful of basic ingredients. It's a perfect single-serving breakfast or snack when you want something fresh, and quick. And unlike the smoothie shop versions, this homemade recipe keeps things simple and affordable.

If you've never tried an acai smoothie before, this recipe is a fantastic place to start. Acai (properly spelled açaí) is a deep purple berry native to Brazil and the Amazon, and while it doesn't have a lot of sweetness on its own, it becomes a magical treat when you blend in other fruits like strawberries & banana. Its uniquely rich berry flavor truly shines in a smoothie.

I kept things super simple for this acai recipe. With some frozen banana on hand, it takes just a minute or so to blend up. It's basically the smoothie version of an acai bowl (which is also incredibly delicious, if you're craving something even thicker!)

Pro tip: Can't find frozen acai? Try this delicious mixed berry smoothie instead.

🌿 Ingredients

Four bowls on a marble countertop filled with soy milk, frozen mixed berries, frozen acai, and sliced frozen bananas, prepared for making a smoothie.

I use Sambazon Original Açaí which is sweetened, but you could also use their unsweetened acai and add a touch of honey (or maple syrup for a vegan smoothie.) You can find acai globes or packs in the frozen section of most large grocery stores. I used unsweetened soy milk for the base, but feel free to use the plant milk of your choice.

Pro tip: Slice and freeze the banana about an hour before you make your smoothie, or overnight.

See recipe card below for exact quantities.

📝 Instructions

A clear smoothie glass with blueberry jam smeared around the middle sits on a white marble countertop.
For some optional swirls, smear blueberry or blackberry jam inside your glass first.
A blender with frozen acai, mixed berries and banana slices in soy milk, viewed from above on a white marble countertop.
Blend all of the ingredients until smooth and thick, and pour into your glass.

🥧 Serving suggestions

This acai smoothie is great on its own, but if you're craving a savory breakfast side to round things out, you can try this avocado toast or this quick breakfast sandwich.

Method

  1. If you'd like, use the back of a spoon to smear a little blueberry or blackberry jam around the inside of your smoothie glass for a marbled effect. (This is optional!)
  2. Place the other ingredients in a blender (see notes), cover, and blend for 30-60 seconds. If you're using an acai packet, you may need to run it under warm water for 10-15 seconds to loosen the plastic and squeeze it out.
  3. Pour into your glass, and enjoy!
